The 12‑Outfit Travel Capsule

A refined, minimalist packing system based on the principle: pick pieces, not outfits.

1 - Shoes:
Bring 2 pairs:

  1. One comfortable walking shoe

  2. One dressy shoe for evenings

    Guidelines:

-Choose shoes first — they determine what outfits will work.

-Wear the heavier/bulkier pair and pack the lighter one.

2 - Bottoms:
Bring 2 trousers:

  1. One light fabric

  2. One heavy fabric

How to choose:

  • Pick bottoms first — they set your base color and anchor every outfit.

  • Choose one quiet dark color: navy, black, charcoal, or olive.

  • Choose the second pair in a different color and fabric.

  • If the first is heavy, make the second light (or vice versa).

  • Every top should work with both.

Optional dressy bottom:

  1. One skirt or smart trousers.

3 - Tops:

  1. Pack 5 total:

    • 3 soft knit shirts

    • 1 long‑sleeve top

    • 1 dressy top

    Soft knit shirts:

    • Choose light neutrals: white, cream, soft gray.

    • No logos, slogans, or loud patterns.

    • Should work alone or under a cardigan.

    • Choose fabrics that don’t wrinkle easily.

    • Keep the style consistent (same neckline, length, fabric) so everything fits together.
      Long‑sleeve top (even in summer):

      • Breathable fine knit or light cotton.

      • Can be worn open.

      • Pack for air‑conditioning, not the forecast — planes, trains, museums, and restaurants are cold.

      Dressy top:

      • A blouse with a slight sheen or a crisp collared shirt.

      • Color should match all three bottoms.

      • Works for dinner with dark trousers, weddings with a skirt, or concerts with a cardigan.

Cardigan:
-Merino wool is ideal: warm but breathable, odor‑resistant, and repeat‑wear friendly.

-Don’t wear it two days in a row — hang it overnight to air out.

5 - Outerwear:
-Wear it, don’t pack it.

-Coat, jacket, or rain gear depending on weather.

-Choose your heaviest outerwear.

-Should have pockets for essentials and double as a blanket on the plane.

-If you land in wet weather, you’re already prepared.

6 - Underwear:
-Pack enough for 5 days.

-Roll and tuck inside shoes to save space.

-Wash in the sink every few days.

-After washing, roll in a towel and press — it should be dry by morning.

7 - Sleepwear:
-Comfortable and versatile enough to wear around the room.
